HD Hyundai Heavy Industries recently received a Detailed Design Verification from DNV for its in-house developed standard 500MW offshore substation (OSS) model. This marks the first for a Korean offshore substation project to achieve an official international certification for design suitability and safety in accordance with global codes and standards. Following the validation of its design concept and technical feasibility through FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) Verification in August 2025, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries completed the Detailed Design Verification this August, securing compliance with international regulations for detailed engineering up to the actual fabrication and installation stages. With the full design verification process now complete, the 500MW OSS standard model is established as a "Ready-to-Build" platform that can be immediately applied to upcoming domestic and international offshore wind projects. An offshore substation is a critical installation that steps up the voltage of electricity generated by offshore wind farms before transmitting it onshore. The verified 500MW OSS model will now serve as a standardized platform optimized for large-scale offshore wind projects. Notably, by localizing key equipment, the platform will contribute to securing the competitiveness of domestic supply chains. Furthermore, gaining verification from an internationally recognized body will validate design reliability and project execution capabilities, strengthening bidding competitiveness with a commercial model ready for immediate deployment in both domestic and global offshore wind projects. Going forward, based on standardized OSS designs and a robust domestic supply chain, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries expects to expand its participation in offshore wind projects at home and abroad, while continuing to foster domestic supply chain growth and enhance the overall competitiveness of the offshore wind industry.
